MARR Attending Two Local Open Houses
On Saturday June 8, 2024, Major Appliance Recycling Roundtable (MARR) took part in two open houses at the Burnaby Eco-Centre and the Vancouver Landfill in Delta. These events were held in celebration of Environment Week. Members of the MARR team were present on-site and spoke with residents about the importance of recycling large appliances, as well as how easy it is with over 200+ collection sites across the province.
Vancouver Landfill Open House
The Vancouver Landfill open house offered a fun-filled behind-the-scenes tour of the Vancouver Landfill where attendees learned about where their garbage ends up. Other attractions included face painting, arts and crafts, free bags of compost for attendees, and free food and refreshments.
MARR had their own booth at the event with educational handouts, and two MARR team members were available to share how large appliance recycling works in BC with the public.
Burnaby Eco-Centre Open House
This open house was hosted by City of Burnaby staff and recycling stewardship partners, including MARR. The open house featured live music, and a free bag of compost as well for all Burnaby residents on a first-come, first-serve basis. This free and fun event was well attended.
Here, the MARR field agent was on site with a booth to engage with attendees and answer any of their questions regarding large appliance recycling.
Overall, these two events were a great opportunity for MARR to share more about its large appliance recycling services on the ground. Such one-on-one community interactions are key to establishing connections and relaying the importance of sustainable habits, such as recycling one’s large appliances.
